In 2009, ethylene production reached 1.06 million tons, becoming China's first actual annual output exceeding one million tons. The large ethylene enterprises achieved a profit of 3.65 billion yuan in the year and an average daily profit of 10 million yuan. The cumulative profits realized in the three years since its start-up reached nearly 7 billion yuan, equivalent to the total investment of one million tons of ethylene renovation and expansion projects.
