Omron Co., Ltd., an automation equipment manufacturer, has reached an agreement with Japan's KOA Co., Ltd. to transfer the backlight business of the Display Systems Division of Tama Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of KOA, to Omron.
It is understood that the Tama Electrical Industry first independently separated its backlight business and formed a 100-owned wholly-owned subsidiary. After the establishment of the new company, Omron acquired all the shares from Tama Electrical Industry and took over all development, production, sales and other functions and employees related to the Tama backlight business.
Omron has been developing and commercializing backlights for small LCD screens for mobile phones. This device uses an LED lighting module as a light source and uses Omron's exclusive MLA (microlens array) technology for light control. On the one hand, with the popularity of large LCD TVs of 30 inches or more, the market for backlights for large-screen liquid crystal displays will rapidly expand, and LEDs will replace them as new light sources for backlights.
