Hyundai Heavy Industries will enter the environmental protection equipment market

South Korea Hyundai Heavy Industries independently developed the "ship exhaust gas emission reduction equipment" will be supplied to shipping companies for the first time, which has accelerated the pace of Hyundai Heavy Industries' entry into the environmental protection equipment market.

Recently, Hyundai Heavy Industries has signed a supply contract with Rowan Corporation of the United States. According to the contract, Hyundai Heavy Industries will supply 18 sets of tail gas abatement devices to the three oil rigs under construction at the Ulsan Shipyard in August. The main substance of atmospheric pollution - nitrogen oxides in the exhaust can be decomposed into nitrogen and water (SCR method) under the catalyst developed by Hyundai Heavy Industries, and the reduction of nitrogen oxides can reach 95% or more.

According to the Korean industry, the TIER III (Air Pollution Prevention Third Regulation) of the International Maritime Organization in 2016 will have a significant increase in demand for marine engine exhaust emission reduction equipment. Hyundai Heavy Industries said that applying the tail gas abatement device to oil tankers means that the quality of the product has been certified.

In addition to the development of SCR-type exhaust gas emission reduction devices, Hyundai Heavy Industries is currently developing EGR-type equipment that can recycle part of the exhaust gas. In addition, Hyundai Heavy Industries also plans to develop environmentally friendly natural gas engines with carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions reductions of 20% and above.
