· BMW won the Shanghai Autopilot Test License Driverless Race
According to Agence France-Presse reported on May 15, BMW has obtained two Shanghai Autopilot test licenses and became the first foreign automaker to test autonomous vehicles in China.
On May 14, the Shanghai Economic and Information Technology Commission awarded two test licenses for the BMW 7 Series. The committee said that since the test license was issued in Shanghai in March, state-owned automakers SAIC and electric car startup NIO have completed more than 6,000 kilometers of unmanned travel, with no accidents.
According to the report, the vehicle licensed for this test is not allowed to enter the prosperous section of Shanghai. The vehicle needs to travel on a specific test road of 5.6 kilometers long.
In the fierce competition between Chinese local technology companies and foreign automakers, the Chinese autopilot car market is developing rapidly. Recently, two companies that have invested heavily in this cutting-edge technology, Alibaba and Baidu, predict that autonomous vehicles will be put into use in China within three to five years.
